The El Campo Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is accepting nominations for the 2017 Citizen of the Year. The Citizen of the Year is a lifetime achievement award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Dec. 29. Nomination letters can be delivered to the Chamber Office at 01 N. Mechanic or by mail to P.O. Box 1400 El Campo, TX 77437. Church, Businesses Collecting Toys

Be the Light is teaming up with New Life Assembly of God and local businesses to collect toys this holiday season. Toys will be dispersed with the help of our local schools. Donations can be dropped off at any one of the following locations Monday - Friday: Revolution Fitness, 903 S. Mechanic from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Ai United, 121 W. American Legion To Hold Executive Meeting

Library Hosts Customer Appreciation Day

The El Campo Branch of the Wharton County Library will be holding its annual Christmas Open House Customer Appreciation on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The library staff invites all patrons to stop by and enjoy a cup of punch and light refreshments throughout the day. The staff also invites patrons to wish Aileen Terry, Branch Manager for the past 20 years, a happy retirement. Terry, will be retiring, effective Dec. 31st.

Remember A Veteran This Christmas

In an effort to remember veterans this Christmas, Wreaths Across America will be held locally at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4609 N. State Hwy. 71 starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16. The event is being hosted by Comfort Wood Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Arts & Crafts Fair Coming To Garwood

Eastman Gallery is hosting the Garwood Country Christmas Marketplace from noon to 6 p.m. Satuday, Dec. 16 in downtown Garwood. The event will showcase over 30 artists and vendors in Downtown Garwood including painters, potters, jewelers, photographers, doll-makers and garden art. There will be face-painting, a bouncy room and a painting tent for the kids and a chili cook-off, baking contest and a washer pitching tournament for the adults.


American Legion To Gather For Christmas

Craig-Harris, American Legion Post & Auxiliary #251 will have their Member’s Christmas Gathering in lieu of their General Meeting on Tuesday Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 7 p.m. All members are strongly encouraged to attend.


Knights of Columbus Hosts Blood Drive

Knights of Columbus Council 2490 will sponsor a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday Dec. 20 at the Columbus Club on Armory Rd (1458 Co Rd 406) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This is the last blood drive for 2017. It is a great Christmas gift to give . One pint of blood will save 3 people’s lives. All donors will receive a meal and t-shirt.


Lutheran Church To Host Christmas Program

Danevang Lutheran Church Christmas program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. at the church in Danevang. A visit with Santa and refreshments will be held in the church hall following the program.

Wharton County Toys for Tots is collecting new toys for children now through mid-December. The El Campo Leader-News is just one of the drop off locations in El Campo. Manna Meals Offers Food, Fellowship

TOPS Meeting On Weekly Basis

TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Pounds Off Sensibly) will have a weekly chapter meeting from 9 - 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Northside Education Center, Room 105. Meetings focus on nutrition, exercise, motivation and wellness education. Those who are interested are welcome to attend.

Bulletin Board is a community service to promote one-time events for nonprofit organizations. The Leader-News requests only one representative submit items with contact information. Items will be edited. Event submissions will run no more than four editions immediately prior to the event as space permits. Garage sale fundraisers, church auctions (not part of a larger event) and raffles do not qualify. All items submitted must arrive no later than 3 p.m. Mondays for the Wednesday edition and 3 p.m. Thursdays for the Saturday edition.
