The FESCO blood drive set for Thursday, Dec. 14 at 711 East Jackson location from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. has been cancelled.

Nominations Being Accepted

The El Campo Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is accepting nominations for the 2017 Citizen of the Year. The Citizen of the Year is a lifetime achievement award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Dec. 29. Nomination letters can be delivered to the Chamber Office at 01 N. Mechanic or by mail to P.O. Box 1400 El Campo, TX 77437. Nominations can also be emailed to ecc@elcampochamber.com. Church, Businesses Collecting Toys For Children

Be the Light is teaming up with New Life Assembly of God and local businesses to collect toys this holiday season. Toys will be dispersed with the help of our local schools. Remember A Veteran This Christmas

In an effort to remember veterans this Christmas, Wreaths Across America will be held locally at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4609 N. State Hwy. 71 starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16. The event is being hosted by Comfort Wood Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Arts & Crafts Fair Coming To Garwood

Eastman Gallery is hosting the Garwood Country Christmas Marketplace from noon to 6 p.m. Satuday, Dec. 16 in downtown Garwood. The event will showcase over 30 artists and vendors in Downtown Garwood including painters, potters, jewelers, photographers, doll-makers and garden art. There will be face-painting, a bouncy room and a painting tent for the kids and a chili cook-off, baking contest and a washer pitching tournament for the adults.


Former Priest Leads Advent Celebration

Msgr. Enda McKenna, former priest of St. Philip Catholic Church, is returning to the parish as a special guest for a celebration of the Advent season. All are invited to a time of worship, including scripture, songs and meditation with Msgr. McKenna on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Music will begin 6:45 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m.

American Legion To Gather For Christmas

Craig-Harris, American Legion Post & Auxiliary #251 will have their Member’s Christmas Gathering in lieu of their General Meeting on Tuesday Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 7 p.m. All members are strongly encouraged to attend.


Knights of Columbus Hosts Blood Drive

Knights of Columbus Council 2490 will sponsor a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday Dec. 20 at the Columbus Club on Armory Rd (1458 Co Rd 406) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This is the last blood drive for 2017. It is a great Christmas gift to give. One pint of blood will save 3 people’s lives. All donors will receive a meal and t-shirt.


Lutheran Church To Host Christmas Program

Danevang Lutheran Church, 1401 Ave. I, Christmas program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. at the church in Danevang. A visit with Santa and refreshments will be held in the church hall following the program.


FUMC Announces Christmas Eve Services

First United Methodist Church El Campo, 1001 Ave. I, will hold their Christmas Eve worship in the chapel at 8:30 a.m. and in the sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. A family worship service will be that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. followed later with a candlelight worship at 6 p.m.

Christ Lutheran Celebrates Christmas

The congregation of Christ Lutheran will hold services on Christmas Eve at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Special Services Set For Faith Lutheran

Faith Lutheran, 2103 N. Mechanic, will have their regular Sunday morning service at 9 a.m. and a candlelight Christmas Eve service that day at 7 p.m. They will also have a Christmas Day service, Dec. 25 at 9 a.m.

Wharton County Toys for Tots is collecting new toys for children now through mid-December. The El Campo Leader-News is just one of the drop off locations in El Campo. Manna Meals Offers Food, Fellowship

Manna Meals is offered at no cost every Monday and Thursday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
