Volunteers Needed

For Thanksgiving Feast

Volunteers are needed to help with the Community Wide Thanksgiving Dinner at the Civic Center.  There is a need for desserts.  They can be bought desserts if there is not time to bake one. Desserts need to be brought to the Civic Center early on Thanksgiving Day.  If you will furnish a dessert please call 637-1459 or 543-1147 so we can get an accurate count. Thank you for your help.

Nominations Being Accepted

The El Campo Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is accepting nominations for the 2017 Citizen of the Year. The Citizen of the Year is a lifetime achievement award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Dec. 29. Nomination letters can be delivered to the Chamber Office at 01 N. Mechanic or by mail to P.O. Box 1400 El Campo, TX 77437. Nominations can also be emailed to ecc@elcampochamber.com. If you have submitted a candidate in the past that was not selected, please resubmit or call the Chamber to update candidate information to be reconsidered. Community Wide Thanksgiving Feast

The Community Wide Thanksgiving Feast will be Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 at the El Campo Civic Center starting at 11 a.m. Volunteers are still needed that day. Meal is free and for the entire community. Those wishing to make a donation towards the cost of the meal may do so by making a check payable to El Campo Community Events, Mail check to First State Bank, El Campo Community Events, P.O. Box 443, El Campo, TX 77437.

Holiday Express Train Coming To El Campo

The El Campo Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express Train’s visit to El Campo, Saturday, Nov. 25 from 4 - 8 p.m. Visitors are invited to climb about the 6-car train and also visit Santa Claus. Please call the Chamber at 979-543-2713 for more information.

Project Graduation Fundraiser

Danevang Museum Hosts Santa Lucia Celebration

The Santa Lucia Christmas celebration will be held from 2 - 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Danevang Heritage Preservation Building in Danevang. There will be singing, crafts, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Everyone is welcome. For information, call Patty Jensen, 543-3009.

The El Campo Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 31st Annual Christmas Mall to be held Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 at the El Campo Civic Center. 8th Annual Jingle Bell Run

The Presbyterian Preschool PTO hosts their 8th Annual Jingle Bell Run, a 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Race benefiting the Preschool, on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $30 per adult, $10 per child. St. John’s Scholarship Games Party

St. John’s Scholarship Games Party will be Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Taiton Community Center at 6 p.m. There will be games, door prizes, drawings, auctions, and a visit from Santa Claus from 4 - 6 p.m. There will be plenty of refreshments and proceeds will benefit the youth of St. John’s.

Wharton County Toys for Tots is collecting new toys for children now through mid-December. The El Campo Leader-News is just one of the drop off locations in El Campo. Register For Boys & Girls Club Basketball League

The Boys & Girls Club is accepting registration for the upcoming basketball league, for ages 6 - 12 (age on 08/31/17). Registration fee of $80 for the program will be accepted until Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. Late registration fee of $20 on Nov. 20 and 21. Forms are available online at www.bgcelcampo.org or at the club office, 713 Fahrenthold. Correct change only and no refunds. Practices and games will be held at the club’s gym. TOPS Meeting On Weekly Basis

TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Pounds Off Sensibly) will have a weekly chapter meeting from 9 - 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Northside Education Center, Room 105. Meetings focus on nutrition, exercise, motivation and wellness education. Those who are interested are welcome to attend.

Manna Meals Offers Food, Fellowship

Manna Meals is offered at no cost every Monday and Thursday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
