Blue Ribbons Show Support for Law Enforcement
The El Campo Leader-News has blue ribbon for those wishing to show support of local law enforcement. The Wharton County 100 Club is sponsoring the effort. Come by the office, 203 E. Jackson, and pick up free ribbon today.

Catholics Host Annual Picnic
St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church Parish Picnic will be Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Columbus Hall (KC). Barbecue beef and sausage plates, $10 each, will be served starting at 11 a.m., dine-in or carry out. Event includes games, country store, auction and music. Mass will be held at the church at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 and 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.

A chicken fried steak dinner benefiting the Crisis Centers of Matagorda and Wharton counties will be drive-thru only, $10 per plate, 5 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Mikeska’s Lunch Box, 218 Merchant. Baseball Tourney Helps With Medical Costs
A baseball tournament for Jolee’s fight against Chiari Malformation will be held at the Rotary Park, Saturday, Sept. 30. Both men’s USSSA and coed teams are invited to participate. There will be a $200 entry fee and $10 umpire fee. All balls will be provided. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Prizes include a wooden bench and wooden cooler. Baked goods and T-shirts will also be for sale and barbecue brisket sandwiches will be $8. Contact Emilio Estrada at 832-230-9193 for more information. Proceeds will be used to offset Jolee’s medical expenses.

Life Chain Sunday A Time For Prayer
The National Life Chain Sunday will be held Sunday, Oct. 1 in Evans Park. All participants are asked to meet the park pavilion at 1:30 p.m. to select a sign and join in a prayer before proceeding to the street as a witness for pro-life beliefs from 2 - 3 p.m. Everyone is urged to participate.

An Informational GT Meeting To Be Held
El Campo ISD parents who would like to have their child formally assessed for the G/T Program are encouraged to attend one of two parent informational meetings. Kindergarten parents are invited to Myatt Elementary on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. and first through 11th grade parents are invited to Hutchins Elementary on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
Free Items To Flood Victims Available
The El Campo Crisis Center Resale Store has clothes, shoes, bedding and towels to give away to any hurricane victims. All of this has been donated from the community for this reason.
Quilt Exhibit Open At Museum
The El Campo Museum of Natural History hosts a quilt show featuring quilts from the El Campo Casual Quilters. The exhibit opened Tuesday, Sept. 13. Drop by to see beautiful handwork done by local quilters. The Museum is open 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
TOPS Meeting On Weekly Basis
TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Pounds Off Sensibly) will have a weekly chapter meeting from 9 - 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Northside Education Center, Room 105. Meetings focus on nutrition, exercise, motivation and wellness education. Those who are interested are welcome to attend.

The El Campo Chamber of Commerce is accepting vendor applications for Prairie Days Festival Saturday, Oct. 7 at Alamo Park. Manna Meals is offered at no cost every Monday and Thursday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Local Library Offers Free Programs
The El Campo Branch Library, 200 W. Church, is open six days a week: Monday 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Programs include story time for children ages 3 - 5 at 10:15 a.m. each Tuesday and toddler time for those ages 6 months to age 3 at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesdays. Heritage Center Offers Exercise, Bingo
The Heritage Center, a non-profit organization with a $50 membership fee, is open to men and women 50 and older. The center, open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., offers use of exercise machines, “Silver Sneakers” chair exercise sessions for those 63 years and older, pool table, dominoes, lending library, lap top computers, games, bingo and opportunities to volunteer. Covered dish luncheons are held once a month. The center is located at 803 Fahrenthold.
