The El Campo Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is accepting nominations for the 2018 Citizen of the Year and 2018 Achiever of the Year. The Citizen is a lifetime achievement award while the Achiever recognizes an outstanding achievement and impact in the El Campo community in 2018. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Dec. 31. Nomination must be submitted via letter to El Campo Chamber of Commerce and can be delivered to the Chamber Office at 01 N. Mechanic or by mail to P.O. Box 1400 El Campo, TX 77437. Crisis Center Gift Drive Ongoing

The Crisis Center of Wharton County and the Children’s Advocacy Center at 116 E. Burleson in Wharton, are having a Christmas gift drive. If you would like to help, donations of toys, clothing, games, electronics, gift cards, food and gift wrapping supplies can be made through Saturday, Dec. 15. Gifts for boys and girls up to age 17 are needed. Drop off locations in El Campo are at Calvin Slaughter Insurance, Northside Center, First Lutheran Church and Wharton County Electric Co-op. City Recycling Compactor Down, Roll Off For Recycling Only

The city recycle compactor, 605 E. Calhoun, is temporarily out of service. The ram needs to be repaired, according to City Secretary Lori Hollingsworth. The estimated repair time is in excess of two weeks. Residents are asked to hold on to their recyclables until further notice. “We will let you know as soon as the compactor is up and running,” Hollingsworth said. The cardboard trailer is still available for use, but is removed when full for unloading. The city requests nothing be left at the station if the trailer has been removed. It will return when emptied.

Registration Open For Little League

El Campo Little League 2019 spring season registration is open. Boys and girls ages 5-16 years old can register at Early registration closes Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019. There will be a $25 late registration fee Monday, Jan. 21 - Thursday, Jan 31. Email the player agents at for questions.

Bingo Held At American Legion

El Campo American Legion hosts bingo games every Friday at 6 p.m. Doors opening at 5 p.m., card sales at 6 p.m. and games at 7 p.m. Snack bar will be open.

Have Questions About Medicare?

State Health Insurance Assistance Program Counselor, Alex Rischan will be at the El Campo Branch Library, 200 W. Church, every third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to offer advice and aid in making sense of Medicare. One-on-one counseling will be given at no cost.

Pilgrim Rest Distributes Commodities

Veteran’s Service Officer Hours

Wharton County Veteran’s service officer hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in Wharton from 8 - 11:30 a.m. and noon - 4:30 p.m. Wednesday will be at the El Campo Library, 200 W. Manna Meals Offers Food Monday, Thursday

Heritage Center Offers Exercise, Bingo

The Heritage Center, a non-profit at 803 Fahrenthold with a $50 membership, is open to those 50 and older Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. It offers exercise machines, chair exercise sessions, pool table, dominoes, lending library, lap top computers, games, bingo and opportunities to volunteer. Covered dish luncheons held once a month.
