Former Hillje man holds longest supersonic flight record after 50 years

Fifty years ago, El Campo area native Sidney Kubesch brought world-wide attention to himself as Air Force commander of a three-man crew who made the longest supersonic flight in history from Toyko to London in record time.

That flight, which was made on Oct. 16, 1963 in a B-58 Hustler nicknamed “Greased Lightning,” still holds the record today.
