Longtime educator staying positive despite cancer, stroke

Posted: Saturday, September 2, 2017 12:00 am

An educator much of her adult life, 82-year-old Elaine Rowland taught fourth and fifth grade at Louise Elementary for 31 years. Rowland made Louise her home until recently when she had to move in with her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Dolores Rowland of El Campo. It seemed to be the right decision for the widow who is battling cancer for the second time, this time with an incurable disease called urothelial cancer.

She also suffered from a stroke earlier this year causing some paralysis on the left side and speech problems. She is still receiving therapy for her speech and walking.
