SPJST youth entertain grandparents with poetry and dance performances The youth of SPJST Lodge 30, Taiton gathered Sunday at the Taiton Community Center. The meeting was called to order by President Kenna Bubela. Stephanie Fucik led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, SPJST motto and SPJST prayer. Roll call of officers and members and the reading of the minutes was done by Secretary Steven Drapela. The treasurer's report was given by Treasurer Danielle Zalman. Members were reminded that dues are payable for the new year and are $1.50 per member. Club members' grandparents were introduced as guests at the meeting. In old business, it was reported that Lodge 30, Taiton will host Youth Achievement Day next year on July 13, 2008, and the adult lodge will host the District 6 Spring meeting on March 2, 2008. Youth club members are to meet at 5 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Taiton Community Center to clean the highway for their community service project. The SPJST District 6 Fall Meeting will be held on Oct. 14, 2007 at Eagles Hall in Bay City. They were reminded about the Christmas ornament contest and to bring one dozen kolaches for the youth club prize drawing. In new business, the Taiton Fall Festival will be held Oct. 7. Youth club members were reminded to work the cake walk booth and sell tickets. In the youth leaders report, Lisa Bubela reminded members of the Texas Fraternal Congress' contest this year and encouraged everyone to participate. She reported that she gave the youths' comments about State YAD to State Youth Director John Hoelscher. She also said district youth counselors will be having their annual meeting and if anyone has any suggestions to contact District 6 DYC Marcy Dorotik. The September birthday celebrants were Sarah Supak and Jeremy Supak. Members read their poems or card for their grandparents. The next meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 7 at the Taiton Community Center. The craft will be to make a fall decoration for the Taiton Community Center Fall Festival. The charity will be to bring one dozen kolaches for the cake walk booth at the Fall Festival. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 2:47 p.m. A Grandparents Day social took place after the meeting with cake, cheese dip and chips, and punch. Youth members then performed their talents from this past year's Youth Achievement Day for all the grandparents to see. |
