Taiton EEC shares school day stories Members of Taiton Extension Education Club met Wednesday at the VFW Hall. Sharon Martinez was the guest of her mother, Bea Yockey. Members and guests heard a program on "Schools Days - Now and Then." Presenters Mary Ann Gerla and Olivia McDonald led members in memories of their early school years; four members had attended one room schools. Comparisons were made between the schools of the past and present day schools in the El Campo School district. Most remembered starting school armed with a pencil and tablet, maybe crayons. TEEC members have been given order forms and brochures for the sales of pecans and other nuts. Deadline for ordering nuts to be received before Thanksgiving is Oct. 24. A wide variety of pecans, peanuts, almonds and other nuts for home use or as gifts are available. The Wharton County Extension Education achievement dinner will be Oct. 2 at the El Campo Civic Center. Tickets are available from Gracie Priesmeyer. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. with a fried fish dinner served at 7 p.m. The WCEEA meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Wharton County Extension Office Tuesday, Sept. 25. The next TEEC meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 10. |
