Nada CDA votes in support of projects Following a Rosary prayer service led by Mary Hoffman and Betty Janish, members of the Catholic Daughters Court Our Lady of the Rosary No. 1595 met Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Parish Hall at Nada. Regent Anita Meismer welcomed Court Chaplain Father Joe Vrana, who led the opening prayer in memory of those whose lives were lost on 9-11. Vice Regent Bernita Korenek led the Opening Ode. Treasurer Marilyn Popp gave the treasurer's report. Various committee reports were heard from the following chairman. Legislative chairman Betty Leopold reported that a Texas flag had been donated to be displayed in the Parish Hall. She also spoke on Pro-life issues and asked members to be aware of the way politicians vote because as taxpayers we should hold them accountable for their campaign promises. Senior citizen party chairman Helen Noteboom reported on the domino parties held during the summer months and deemed them a success. She reported they will continue during the fall and winter months as in previous years. Special Mass enrollments chairman Mabel Popp reported that a donation to the State CDA memorial scholarship fund had been made in the memory of Doris Drlik. Vice Regent Korenek spoke on the new national CDA projects and informed members of five new projects. She encouraged members to support them as well as the previous eight national projects. Members voted to support all the projects as presented. Barbara Leopold, financial secretary, reported membership is 158. The semi-annual court audit will be held after the October meeting. Audit committee members are Bernice Kallina, Janet Mahalitc and Pat Wobbe. Monica Staff and Linda Swoboda will serve as alternates. A committee consisting of Betty Leopold, Linda Swoboda and Helen Noteboom to revise the court's standing rules was appointed by the regent. They will bring their report to the October meeting. Father Vrana stated a book on the history of the Victoria Diocese, which includes pictures of every Catholic Church, will be available soon. He will have more details in the near future. He also reminded members of the parish meeting on Sept. 20 at the parish hall. In closing, Regent Meismer announced the upcoming Knights of Columbus charity sporting clays shoot will be held Sept. 15 beginning at 1 p.m. The shoot is open to shooters of all ages. CDA members will have a sweets booth and a drawing for various prizes will be held in the late afternoon. Baked items may be left at Nada Grocery and they will be picked up from there at 11:30 a.m. and taken to the sporting clays location. Following the meeting, Lisa Hoffman, Mary Hoffman, Betty Janish and Sherry Hoffman served a meal of King Ranch chicken, vegetable salad, French bread, and assorted cookies prepared by Lisa, with soft drinks. |
