Buss speaks at AARP meeting Michael Buss, pharmacist at Walgreens, was a special guest speaker at the AARP Chapter 1419 meeting on Wednesday. Josie Knebel presided in the absence of the president, Allen Collins. The pledge was led by Wade Newton. After Newton gave the blessing, birthday honorees led the group through the covered dish luncheon line. Honorees were Hattie Buxkemper, Sophie Kana, and Angeline Schoenfield. After the luncheon, Buss, a native of El Campo and a 1977 graduate of The University of Texas Pharmaceutical School, spoke about a new ready response program offered through the Walgreens system. Buss moved back to El Campo in 1985 and bought the El Campo Pharmacy. In 2006 he sold his pharmacy and began working for Walgreens. He handed out booklets and pamphlets on diabetes and spoke at length about the Medicare D Insurance, as well as answered many questions from the audience. Medicare D was to be a plan to help those who could not afford insurance. However, the government opened the insurance to all senior citizens. It ran smoothly in 2006, the first year it was offered. Buss said that most of the Medicare D plans are similar. The next meeting will be at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 10. All citizens who are 50 plus years are invited to meet with the group at the Heritage Center. |
