LADY 'BIRD & LADY HORNET VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT UPDATE

KELSEY GANGL
El Campo Lady 'Birds

While the Lady 'Birds rallied for a thirdplace finish in the Edna Tournament earlier this month, one key member brought home a big honor.

Kelsey Gangl was named to the All- Tournament team because of her great play throughout the event.

Gangl served for a total of 79 points including 21 aces.

Along with her great serving, Gangl tallied 21 kills, 5 blocks and 25 digs.

Louise Lady Hornets

Louise's volleyball team brought home the consolation prize from the Round Top Tournament, held Sept. 6 and 8.

"This is the first trophy that the volleyball program has brought home since the program was restarted seven years ago," Head Coach Bryan Branch said. "It's a good step in the right direction."

Louise won one out of three matches in pool play to start out the tournament. The Lady Hornets finished third in their pool and advanced to compete in the bracket on the second day of competition.

Sealy 2, Lady Hornets 0

Sealy defeated Louise in two games to start the Round Top Tournament.

The Lady Hornets struggled in the first game and lost 25-11, but came back to compete in the second game. Sealy barely won the game 25-21.

Lady Hornets 2, Somerville 0

The Lady Hornets came back for a 2- game sweep over Somerville.

Amber Bain led Louise with 4 kills in the match and helped her team to wins of 25-20 and 25-22.

Round Top 2, Lady Hornets 0

Round Top ended Louise's pool play with a 2-game win.

The Lady Hornets fell 25-20 and 25-11 to Round Top despite a great match by the defense. Lauren Gresham led Louise with 6 digs while the entire team combined for 21 total digs.

Palacios 2, Lady Hornets 0

"We played well against Palacios the first game," Branch said. "We had few errors and the game came down to who made plays and not mistakes. Palacios made one or two more plays than us."

The Lady Hornets fell with loses of 25-23 and 25-15 despite a solid showing to start the bracket.

Lady Hornets 2, Snook 0

Louise had no competition against Snook as the Lady Hornets cruised to a win, 25-15 and 25-15.

Lady Hornets 2, Sealy 1

Louise avenged an earlier pool-play loss to Sealy to come out with a win, 25- 20, 19-25 and 25-20.

Branch recognized Amber Bain's great play at the net and said her power pumped up the rest of the team. She finished the match with 10 total kills.
