Lady 'Birds preparing for district

In the Lady 'Birds last volleyball match before opening district competition, El Campo fell to a tough Hallettsville team.

The Lady Brahmas topped El Campo 3-0 with wins of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18.

Despite the loss, the Lady 'Birds attained good experience against a tough opponent that should only help to strengthen their play come district.

Even in the loss, several Lady 'Birds had good statistics.

Ashley Zboril led the team with 9 kills while Meredith Bard earned 8, Kaylan Gangl earned 7, Kelsey Gangl made 5, Jessica Dornak made 3, Shelby Cooper had 2 and Lindsey Marik had 1 kill.

Kelsey Gangl was the team's leading server on the night with 12 points and 1 ace. Kristi Michaelsen and Bard both had 10 points, Kaylan Gangl had 7, Zboril had 6, Ashley Brooks had 3, Cooper had 2 points and 1 ace and Stephanie Korenek scored 2 points.

Bard led the defense with 5 blocks while Kaylan Gangl made 3, Zboril and Korenek both made 2 and Kelsey Gangl made 1 block.

Marik made a team-high 7 digs, Zboril made 5, Michaelsen made 2 and Kaylan Gangl, Kelsey Gangl, Bard and Cooper each had 1 dig.

The Lady 'Birds are 10-10 on the season and traveled to Richmond Tuesday to play Foster. They will return home for a Friday match with Seven Lakes.
