ECMS FOOTBALL REPORT

El Campo Middle School took on Wharton last Tuesday in a few great games.

Each team played well against the Tigers for another great week of football.

8th Grade Red

El Campo's defense was great while the offense blasted the Tigers for a shutout.

The Ricebirds scored four times in the first three quarters to come away with a 26-0 win.

Devin Parks made the first score on a 27-yard touchdown run. DeAndre Pratt ran in for the 2-point conversion and El Campo had an 8-0 lead.

Parks scored twice more before the game ended.

In the second quarter, Parks ran in for a 10-yard rushing touchdown to boost El Campo's lead to 14-0.

Parks made his longest scoring run of the night later in the same quarter. He broke free for a 30-yard scramble into the end zone for his third score of the night.

Pratt made the last score of the game in the third quarter. He ran in from 22 yards out for El Campo's fourth rushing touchdown of the night. The run gave the Ricebirds a 26-0 lead, the game's eventual final score.

Parks led the team in rushing with 8 carries for 136 yards. Pratt finished second on 8 carries for 80 yards and Josh Bishop ran for 26 yards on 5 rushes.

Leading tacklers on the night were Bran Sparks, Dominic Castillo, Ryan Reyna, Michael Hawkis, Eric Williams and Bishop.

Ryan Bartosh and Williams both recovered fumbles for the Ricebird defense.

8th Grade White

El Campo ran away with a 40-12 win over the Tigers.

Jacorric Malone made the first score on a well-run play. He took the pitch from quarterback Derek Yackel to the left and cut back across the middle to outrun the defense for a 50-yard touchdown.

Bartolo Salgado converted the 2-point conversion and El Campo had the lead 8-0.

The next score came on a run by Devonte Allen from 3 yards out. Castrong Richardson made the 2-point conversion to give the 'Birds a 16-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Malone struck again. He broke free on a left-side dive for a 25-yard touchdown run and Richardson made the 2-point conversion.

Wharton managed one touchdown in the second quarter, but El Campo still had a 24-6 lead at halftime.

The Ricebirds struck twice in the third quarter.

David Carrizales scored on a 4-yard and Datrel North finished with the 2-point conversion.

Wharton answered with a touchdown, but El Campo followed with a great play.

The Ricebirds' final score came on a 94-yard kick-off return for a touchdown by Richardson. Andrew Solis scored the 2-point conversion to give the Ricebirds the final score of 40-12.

Malone led the 'Birds with 119 rushing yards while Allen ran for 28 and Salgado ran for 25 yards.

Leading tacklers on the night were Logan Howard with 6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery and Nathan Jackson with 6 tackles. Ty Pustejovsky, Salgado, Richardson and Solis also had great defensive games.

7th Grade Red

In a close match, El Campo came through with a 6-0 win over the Tigers.

The only score of the game came in the second quarter.

Marvin Shimek ran in for a 21-yard touchdown to seal El Campo's 6-0 win.

Shimek was the team's leading rusher with 86 yards while B.J. Flagg ran for 26 yards.

Travis Woods and Aaron Vega both led the defense with 3 tackles. Michael Guevara, Brett Prihoda, Montray Johnson, Kabous King and Jeff Fiala each had 2 tackles.

7th Grade White

Though the Tigers defeated the Ricebirds 6-0, El Campo gave a great effort on the field.

The Ricebird defense played tough, not allowing a Wharton score until the fourth quarter and the Tigers' last possession of the game.

Trey Martin led El Campo with 62 rushing yards while Jeremy Supak ran for 45 yards.

Rico Bernal was the leading defender for El Campo with 6 tackles. Colton Marton made 5 tackles, Trey Martin ad 4 and Cody Chumchal had 3 tackles on the night.
