Slap It On
      Esequiel Diaz was busy "mudding" the ceiling of a walkway outside the new El Campo High School practice gymnasium recently. The project is part of a multi-million-dollar bond package passed two years ago, which also includes construction of the new middle school on FM 2765.

Fall sneaks in with little fanfare

      With highs near 90 and humidity still making the air thick, Wharton County residents may have missed the coming of Fall Sunday. Few if any leaves were falling from the trees as the high recorded at El Campo Memorial Hospital hit 88 degrees that first day of Fall.

Next step taken to add two more reactors to Bay City plant
      PRINCETON, NJ - NRG Energy, Inc. and South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Company filed a Combined Construction and Operating License Application Monday with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build and operate two new nuclear units at the South Texas Project nuclear power station site.

STP production costs lowest of all U.S. nuclear plants
      The South Texas Project has the lowest production cost reported by nuclear power plants nationwide, at 1.356 cents per kilowatt-hour in 2006. STP's combined operating, maintenance and fuel expenses were the lowest among plants that report those costs to federal regulators.
