Gadabouts to honor seniors for 'Make a Difference Day' Members of the Nada/ Garwood Gadabouts met Thursday afternoon at the Garwood Fire Station meeting room where President Anita Meismer welcomed members and guests Janis Phillips of Garwood and Marlene Jensen of Nada. The meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge to the flag. Secretary Catherine Berger read the minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer, Helen Noteboom, gave her report. The sick committee reported sending get well wishes to Pauline Solomon, Joe and Pauline Leopold and Leonard Staff. Birthday greetings were sent to Henrietta Patrick, Edna Shimek, Helen Noteboom, Lorine Bubela, Betty Leopold and Millie Fajkus. It was noted that Millie is the eldest member at the age of 102. A sympathy card was sent to James Drlik. The gardening committee reported that vegetables have been planted. Among these are broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes squash, cucumbers and various other vegetables. All were reminded that now is the time to plant wildflowers. Make a Difference Day will be observed on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon served at noon. Nada/Garwood area senior citizens who are 80 years of age and older are invited as well as those who will be 80 this year. It was noted that this event has been well attended in the past and is a great way to honor these senior citizens. The event will held at the Lehrer Memorial Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Garwood. It was announced that the yard of Frnka and Sandra Huvar has been chosen as the Yard of the Month. "It was noted that Sandra spends many hours in her yard, which is evident in the many different varieties of plants, trees, flowers and decorative items in the yard," said Meismer. "The landscape is outstanding and Gadabout members are proud to honor them for the work the do to keep their yard a showplace in the Garwood community." |
