Lady Hornets easily smash Nordheim Louise had no trouble putting away Nordheim Friday in the first District 28-1A match for the varsity Lady Hornets this season. Louise got better as the match went along, defeating Nordheim in game one, 25-10; in game two, 25-9; and in the final game three, 25-5. Sarah Willliamson and Amber Bain were all over the court. Williamson attacked the ball 20 times and killed it 12 times for a 60 percent kill ratio. Bain attacked 26 times and made 17 kills for a 65 percent ratio. She also had all of Louise's three blocks, and got all 15 serve attempts in. Kirsten Machicek provided 27 assists. The other went to Amanda Popp. Four Lady Hornets had aces. Katie Brown had two and one each was credited to Kierra Thornton, Machicek and Williamson. Thornton also found her groove while serving, getting 24 of 25 serves in. That included 15 straight points in game three. "We hit the ball well and passed the ball well," Coach Bryan Branch said, adding he'd like to see his team begin games with more intensity. After losing to Shiner 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17 three days before the Nordheim game, Branch said he was pleased his team bounced back for the district opener. "Shiner is a state-ranked team and can play some balls that Nordheim could not. We passed a lot better against Nordheim," Branch said. "I think we are playing well at the right time. I think that the district is a four team race between us, Woodsboro, Runge and Pettus. I feel that we can beat all these teams in three games and at the same time we could lose to them in three games. That is how close it will be," the coach said. Louise traveled to defending district champion Woodsboro yesterday, and will host Runge Friday. |
