Louise among best in district standings

Area schools just might be shaking a little when it is time to face the Lady Hornets. A pair of big wins to start district play has Louise looking like a playoff contender.

The Lady Hornets fought through a tough volleyball match in Woodsboro Tuesday to come away with a win and remain undefeated in district play.

"It is tough to win on the road, so that is a big win for us to go 2- 0 in district with 2-0 Runge coming to town on Friday," said Bryan Branch, head coach of the Lady Hornets. "The winner of that match will have sole possession of first."

The Lady Hornets dominated Woodsboro in the first game of the match.

Louise's passing game, led by Lauren Gresham and Kelsi Kutac, set up the offense for several kills. Amber Bain played strong at the net to boost Louise to a 25-17 win.

Woodsboro came back to claim the second game.

The Lady Hornets missed on 5 serves and only lost the game by 4 points, 25-21.

Louise's second-game defeat led to a hole to start the third game that night.

Woodsboro pulled ahead quickly 7-1, but the Lady Hornets were able to fight back and tie the game up at 7-7. Still, Woodsboro was able to come back and was able to make a few good hits to win the game 25-22.

Game four was the turning point in the match for Louise.

The Lady Hornets fell behind, but stayed in the game the whole time and eventually came back to win 25-20.

"We showed a lot of heart by not giving up when we were behind in the fourth game. You could tell by the look in our eyes that we never believed we were going to lose that game."

By the time Louise tied up the match at 2-2, the fifth game was no problem.

The Lady Hornets had all the confidence and momentum needed to put them over the top for a 15-10 win to take the match 3-2.

Louise hosted Runge Friday night and will travel to Tivoli Tuesday to continue district play.
