ECMS FOOTBALL REPORT El Campo Middle School's football teams each had a tough time with Briscoe Sept. 18. Each of El Campo's five teams fell in close matches with the rival school from Richmond. 8th Grade Red The Ricebirds jumped ahead early, but could not hold off a charging Briscoe team in the second half to fall 20-19. Cullen Schoener made the first El Campo score. He finished off a nice rive with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. Deven Parks ran in for the extra point and the 'Birds took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Parks reached the end zone once again in the first quarter, but this time it was not only for an extra point. Parks ran for a 3-yard touchdown and El Campo led 13-0 by the end of the first quarter. The Ricebirds' final score of the game put them ahead 19-0 and came on another carry by their running back. Parks took the hand-off and broke free past Briscoe's defense for a 91-yard touchdown run. El Campo entered the locker room at the half ahead 19-0. Briscoe rallied for 20 unanswered points in the second half, including 8 in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth. Parks led the Ricebirds in rushing with 203 yards on 12 carries while DeAndre Pratt finished second with 7 yards on 7 carries. Leading tacklers for El Campo were Eric Williams, Bryan Sparks, Dillon Ferrell, Niko Yanis, Pratt and Parks. The Red team is 2-1 on the season. 8th Grade White Briscoe defeated El Campo 16-0 in a very close game. The Ricebirds fought hard to only hold Briscoe to one firstquarter touchdown and one third-quarter score. Briscoe kicked for 2-point conversions after both scores to get the final 16-0 win. Bartolo Salgado led El Campo in rushing with 38 yards while Castrong Richardson ran for 35 and Jacorric Malone ran for 34 yards. Devontey Allen made 5 tackles on the night. Loan Howard, Andrew Solis, Ryan Hermann and Richardson all joined Allen as El Campo's top defenders in the game. The White team is 1-2 on the season. 7th Grade Red Briscoe proved a tough opponent for the Ricebirds as El Campo fought hard until the end of the game, but still fell 21-0.M arvin Shimek and B.J. Flagg were listed as El Campo's offensive standouts in the game. Defensively, the Ricebirds' starting defensive ends both had great games. Timothy Delgado made 6 tackles on the night while Brett Prihoda made 5 tackles. The Red team is 2-1 on the season. 7th Grade White Briscoe was only able to score once against the Ricebirds. A second-quarter touchdown was the only score of the night as El Campo lost 6-0 in a great effort. Jeremy Supak led the Ricebirds with 64 rushing yards on 16 carries. Jamall Terrell and Andre Booker both recorded three tackles in the game. The White team is 1-2 on the season. 7th Grade Gray El Campo played tough to only allow six points to Briscoe in a 6-0 loss. A first-quarter score was all the Ricebird defense allowed in a strong effort. Brandon Shimek led the Ricebird rushers with 32 yards while Gilbert Vallejo rushed for 23 yards. Timothy Pflughaupt led the defense with 6 tackles and Isais Avila made 4 tackles in the game. The Gray team is 1-2 on the season. |
