COURT REPORTS

Alleged crimes of violence ranging from assault of a public servant to assorted sex crimes have several Wharton County residents facing felony trials.

The Wharton County Grand Jury handed down a host of indictments following early September deliberations.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, but rather a citizen verdict there is enough evidence against a person to proceed with felony charges.

Those facing trial include:

• Tommy Leroy Andrews, 21, of 1848 CR 385 in El Campo for sexual assault of a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 17 on July 1.

• Reginald Lynn Austin, 34, of 1510 Connie in Wharton for assault family violence. He allegedly struck a female family member in the face and head on July 3.

Austin has previous family code violation convictions as well as four felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance.

• Owen Barnes III, 36, of 703 McGrew in El Campo for two counts of sexual assault of a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 17 on Feb. 1.

Barnes has two prior felony convictions for robbery.

• Ellis Eugene Dickerson, 49, of 3207 Blackshear in Wharton for assault family violence. He allegedly struck a female family member in the back of the head on June 5.

Dickerson has prior family code violation convictions as well as felony convictions for theft, burglary of a building and burglary of a vehicle.

• Jeffery Wayne Ford, 44, of 3447 Novosad Rd. in Wharton for sexual assault of a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 17 on April 1, 2006.

• Herbert Sanchez Garcia, 61, of 303 W. Monseratte in El Campo for two counts of indecency with a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a child under the age of 17 on May 27.

• Rene Gabriel Gonzales, 24, of 510 Old Caney Rd. in Wharton for two counts of assault of a public servant. He allegedly fought with two El Campo police officers attempting to arrest him on May 26 kicking both of them.

• Jason Odee Hamsher, 31, of 301 S. Mechanic in El Campo for sexual assault of a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 17 on July 1.

• Joe Luis Huerta, 34, of 505 Tegner in El Campo for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He allegedly used a knife to attack a man on June 2, stabbing and cutting his face and abdomen.

• Richard Mead, 37, of 3009 FM 442 in Boling for two counts of sexual assault. The incident allegedly took place on July 14.

• Joe Ismael Moreno, 58, of 507 Correll in Wharton for aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 14 on Oct. 14, 2005.

• Drakkar James Owens, 17, of 1710 Eldridge in Glen Flora for aggravated assault. He allegedly kicked and punched a man on April 21 breaking his jaw.

• Jeremy Kyle Peikert, 21, of 545 Forrest Lawn in Wharton for retaliation. He allegedly used a vehicle to charge another one frightening the driver by almost striking it in retaliation for that person reporting a crime.

• Nathan Wayne Robinson, 24, of 1002 Ellwood in El Campo for two counts of indecency with a child. The alleged incident reportedly involved a girl under the age of 17 on July 31.
