Ricebirds workout new quarterbacks as Brazosport heads to town

      Refer to El Campo's last week as an off week and Head Football Coach Bob Gillis will raise his eyebrows. "Open week," Gillis said. "There is no off week." Even though El Campo did not have a game last Friday, the Ricebirds were anything but off.

Lady 'Birds struggle in Terry match

      Terry took the first two varsity volleyball games in close decisions 28-26 and 25-23. The Lady 'Birds fought back to take the third game in commanding fashion 25-16, but game four finished the match and gave Terry the win. El Campo fell behind early and lost 25-9 to lose the match 3-1.

L-N Contest gets upsets in Week 5
      Florida, Oklahoma and Texas fans are not the only people feeling upset this week. So is just about everyone who thought they had a shot at Week 5 of the Leader-News Football Contest. After such a frustrating weekend of football, only a few entrants survived the grading marker this week.

      The Charlotte Trojans may be feeling a bit nervous this week. After Shiner defeated Louise 42-7 Friday, the Trojans are next for the angry Louise football team. As the Trojans probably realize, it is never fun to tangle with irritated Hornets.

      28-A VOLLEYBALL DISTRICT STANDINGS W NORDHEIM 1 When a team sits atop district standings as the only unbeaten one, the last thing they feel is lonely. The Lady Hornets are experiencing a bit of bliss as the only volleyball team in District 28-A to be undefeated at 3-0 and in first place.

EIGHTH GRADE FOOTBALL UPDATE
      8th Grade Red El Campo blew by Lamar for an easy win. The Ricebirds scored seven touchdowns to get a 48-21 win over the Mustangs. Of the seven El Campo scoring drives, six of them ended with Devin Parks bursting into the end zone.
