L-N Contest gets upsets in Week 5 Florida, Oklahoma and Texas fans are not the only people feeling upset this week. So is just about everyone who thought they had a shot at Week 5 of the Leader-News Football Contest. After such a frustrating weekend of football, only a few entrants survived the grading marker this week. Several contestants missed six or more games, along with Kris Bagley of the Leader-News, who missed seven and said he wished he did not agree to publish his results. Claiming top prize this week was Arthur Washington, who only missed four games. Somehow he knew that Auburn would upset Florida and Oakland would overcome Miami. For his first-place finish, Washing- ton will receive a $25 check in the mail and a $25 dine-in credit at Pizza Hut. Second and third place came down to a 4-way tie. James Voldan, Douglas Dornak, Donald Petersen and Renay Blume each missed only five games. Petersen was eliminated through Tiebreaker 1 after missing the total score of the Texans' game by 13 points. The Atlanta Falcons surprised the Houston Texans with a 26-16 upset, making the total score 42 points. Petersen guessed 35 points while the other three were only three points away, forcing Tiebreaker 2 for a determination. Dornak came closest to the total yards with his guess of 650. Both teams combined for a big offensive game and 702 total yards. For finishing second, Dornak will receive a $15 check in the mail. Blume took third place with a guess of 610 and will receive a $10 check. Voldan's guess of 571 put him just out of reach for third place. The Football Contest can be found in each Wednesday's edition of the Leader-News, or online at www.leader-news.com. The contest and prizes are made possible by the sponsors advertising on the contest page. Checks and Pizza Hut coupon will be mailed to the winners. |
