LHS set to take on Trojans
By KRIS BAGLEY sports@leader-news.com

The Charlotte Trojans may be feeling a bit nervous this week.

After Shiner defeated Louise 42-7 Friday, the Trojans are next for the angry Louise football team. As the Trojans probably realize, it is never fun to tangle with irritated Hornets.

Charlotte was Louise's match for homecoming last year and the Hornets easily won 47-0.

The Trojans failed to win a district game last season and started the 2007 district schedule with a 22-12 loss to Flatonia Friday.

At 4-1 on the season, Charlotte brings one of the district's more powerful offensive attacks to face Louise.

The Trojans have tallied 1,033 total rushing yards so far and 531 yards passing in five games.

Leading the ground game for the Trojans is top district rusher, Stephen Wilson. A junior, Wilson has gained 742 yards this year on 131 carries and scored 5 touchdowns.

Aaron Luna is the team's leading passer with 33 completions on 62 attempts for 531 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Hornets have the perfect set up to answer Charlotte.

Louise has gained 1,000 rushing yards this season making Friday's game quite the running match up.

Kyle Lawson will take the field for Louise and is second to only Wilson in total rushing yards. On 99 carries this season, Lawson has amassed 588 yards and 8 touchdowns. He averages 5.94 yards per carry.

Joining Lawson in the backfield is Antwon Parson. He has come on strong this year for 228 yards and 4 touchdowns on 35 rushes.

Lawson and Parson should combine for a nice response for the Trojans' running attack.

Friday it was Parson who broke free for Louise's longest run against Shiner.

Shiner 42, Hornets 7

Shiner gave reason for football fans to still believe they are one of the best teams in the state after defeating an up and coming Louise program 42-7.

The Comanches are accustomed to late playoff runs and it appears they are set to go deep in the post season.

Louise hopes to join Shiner in the playoffs. After a loss Friday night, the Hornets still have five games left to show District 31-A opponents they are a tough team to face.

The highlight of Friday's game was a great run by Parson early in the first quarter.

After receiving the opening kickoff, Louise started with the ball on their own 38-yard line.

Shiner was called for encroachment on the first play and the Hornets moved up five yards to the 43. That was when Parson made his great run.

Hornets fans burst into cheers as Parson made a quick run to the right and put on his speed as he ran 57 yards for the game's first touchdown.

Cory Hajovsky came in to kick the extra point and Louise led 7- 0 with 11:45 remaining in the first quarter. Shiner rallied with six consecutive touchdowns and won the game 42-7, but could not defeat the Hornets' spirits.

Louise will attempt to take out frustrations from Friday's loss on the rest of the district, starting Friday at Charlotte.
