EIGHTH GRADE FOOTBALL UPDATE

8th Grade Red

El Campo blew by Lamar for an easy win. The Ricebirds scored seven touchdowns to get a 48-21 win over the Mustangs.

Of the seven El Campo scoring drives, six of them ended with Devin Parks bursting into the end zone.

Parks made his first score of the night in the first quarter on a 52-yard touchdown run. The extra point failed, but El Campo more than made up for the miss later in the game.

Lamar answered with a touchdown and took the lead 7- 6, but it did not last long.

Parks struck again on the ensuing kickoff. He returned the kick 75 yards for a touchdown and gave El Campo a 12-7 lead.

El Campo scored again with a 30-yard run by Parks. This time, DeAndre Pratt kicked the extra point to boost the Ricebirds to a 20-7.

Two more touchdowns in the second quarter put El Campo ahead 34-7 by halftime and they both came on Parks carries.

The first tied Parks' longest run, but this was a legitimate carry, not just a kick-off return. He broke free for a 75-yard touchdown and El Campo led 26-7.

Parks ran the next score in from 73 yards out. Cullen Schoener kicked the extra point to give the Ricebirds a 34-7 lead.

Two more scores in the second half was plenty for the 'Birds.

Pratt reached the end zone on a 2-yard run and kicked his own extra point to give El Campo a 42-7 lead.

Lamar managed two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but Parks' sixth touchdown kept the Ricebirds' win secure.

El Campo's final touchdown of the night came on a 31-yard by Parks. El Campo came away with a 48-21 win.

The Ricebird front line was strong throughout the game and made great blocks. Clint Gold, Adrian Piloto, Greg Rod, Landon Drapela, Ryan Reyna, Ryan Bartosh, Niko Yanis and Travis Gray set up a great rushing attack for El Campo that tallied 452 yards.

Parks was the leading rusher on the night with 316 yards on only 8 carries. Pratt ran for 104 yards on 12 carries while Eric Williams ran for 32 yards on 2 carries. Cullen Schoener completed 2 passes to Pratt for 25 total yards.

Leading tacklers for the 'Birds were Bryan Sparks, Williams, Reyna, Yanis and Parks. Tanner Schoener and Parks both recovered one fumble for the defense.

8th Grade White

The Ricebirds had a tough time hosting the Mustangs. Lamar even threatened a shutout, but El Campo's determination showed with a fourth quarter touchdown to end with an 18-8 Lamar win.

The Mustangs had the 'Birds down 18-0 in the fourth quarter, but EC fought back to score.

El Campo made a 65-yard drive against a tough Mustang defense.

David Carrizales made a 32-yard run during the drive to set up a nice scoring touchdown.

Ricebird tailback Jacorric Malone took the ball for a sweep and ended up passing for a 16-yard touchdown to Bartolo Salgado. Malone came in to kick the extra point and earned the game's final score, 18-8.

Malone was the leading rusher for the 'Birds with 50 total yards while Carrizales ran for 45 yards.

Leading tacklers on the night were Castrong Richardson with 7 tackles, Nathan Jackson with 5 and Devontey Allen with 3 tackles and a fumble recover. Anthony Escamilla and Davontey Simmons also played well for the defense.
