After a tough district-opening loss to Shiner last week, the Louise Hornets rebounded in a big way.

Road games are never easy, but Louise came through with a 12-6 win over the Charlotte Trojans.

The Hornets enjoyed an early lead in the game and held on for the win.

The first score came on what was possibly the play of the game. Cory Hajovsky connected with Antwon Parson on a 77-yard pass play for a touchdown.

The extra point failed following the long-distance play, but Louise had a 6- 0 lead with four seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Hornets struck again with little time remaining in the first half.

Kyle Lawson finished off a nice scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 1:21 left in the second quarter. Louise lined up for a 2-point conversion, but the Trojan defense held on strong and prevented a score.

The Hornets took a 12-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Once back on the field, Charlotte came through with a drive to deny the Hornets a shutout.

A 4-yard pass with only 39 seconds left in the first quarter went for a touchdown to cut Louise's lead to 12- 6.

The Hornets defense played strong from then on and prevented Charlotte from making another score while time ran on in the game.

In total, the Hornets gained 239 yards on the Trojans, including 128 rushing yards and 111 yards through the air.

Louise's defense held Charlotte to 224 yards. The Trojans ran for 107 yards on 38 carries while connecting on 10 of 19 passes for 117 yards.

The Hornets picked off one interception and recovered one fumble in the game.

Louise's 12-6 win puts the Hornets at 1-1 in district play and Charlotte at 0-2. The Hornets return home for a match with Woodsboro Friday.
