BULLETIN BOARD DON'T MISS: Justin Hurst WMA Dedication Friday Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials and the family of Justin Hurst, the El Campo game warden killed March 17 in the Lissie area, invite the public to a rededication of the Wildlife Management Area near Jones Creek in Brazoria County. The former Peach Point WMA has been renamed the Justin Hurst WMA. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. Entrance to the WMA is off Hwy. 36 on the south side of Jones Creek. Please see related story in today's newspaper for more information. TODAY AARP Meeting/Program El Campo AARP Chapter 1419 will meet today at the Heritage Center. THURSDAY, OCT. 11 B&G Club Snag, Tag, & Brag The Boys & Girls Club of El Campo fundraiser at the Civic Center features former Rice University football coach Ken Hatfield as guest speaker as well as National Youth of the Year Finalist Brittny Cantero of Wharton. The event, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, features a seafood dinner as well as athletic awards, a live auction, SWA ticket raffle, and memorials to long-time club friends Betty Ann Franke and Alan Hoelscher. Sponsorships $800, tables $400, tickets $10. All money stays local to benefit local children. Call 543-8320. FRIDAY, OCT. 12 Alumni Homecoming Dance The Louise Mighty Hornet Band will host its Alumni Homecoming Dance for Louise ISD alumni and adult guests Friday, Oct. 12 at the school cafeteria following the game. Admission is $5 per person. Music is by DJDaren Jurosek. A light snack will be served. Plate Lunch Special Progressive Missionary Baptist Church will have fried catfish or turkey-and-dressing plates with extra sides Friday, Oct. 12. Serving starts at 10 a.m. Plates are $7 donation. SATURDAY, OCT. 13 Derby Doll Mini Clinic Registration Deadline Derby Doll Mini Clinic for ages 4 through 8th grade is Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. until noon in the old gym at El Campo High School. Cost is $30 per child with each additional child per family at $15. Future Dolls may register that day at 8:30 a.m. at the old gym. Rosary Rally At Evans Park Oct. 13 A Rosary Rally is being held in honor of Our Lady of Fatima at noon, Saturday, Oct. 13 in Evans Park in downtown El Campo. "America Needs Fatima" is the theme of the event, which should last about an hour. This marks the 90th anniversary in which some believe the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three Portuguese children delivering instructions for peace and salvation. Sunshine Ladies Host Fall Silver Coffee The Sunshine ladies of El Campo Memorial Hospital announce their Fall Silver Coffee Friday, Oct. 19 from 9:30 a.m.-noon in the Gold Room of Commercial State Bank. Refreshments will be served. Contributions to the Sunshine Ladies will be accepted and all money received will be used for supporting the hospital. Knights of Columbus Pickup Drawing KC Truck Give-away - 500 tickets at $100 each - is Sunday, Oct. 21 at the KC Hall on Armory Road at the St. Robert Bellarmine Parish Picnic. Library Host Great Pumpkin Bash The El Campo Branch Library would like to remind all of our young patrons ages 3-14 that it is time to pick up entry forms for the Annual Great Pumpkin Bash/Decorating Contest. All pumpkin handlers will find entry forms, with all the rules and guidelines at the El Campo Library. Decorated pumpkins must be turned in from Oct. 22- 24 to qualify for prizes. For information call the library at 543-2362. Trick or Treat Bag Decorating Contest The El Campo Museum will host a Trick or Treat Bag Decorating contest during the month of October. Children will be divided into four age groups: 2-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each group. Bags and decorating materials will be provided, the children will supply the imagination. The bags will be on display at the Museum until Oct. 27. For information call the museum at 543-6885.
CROP Walk Registration Meeting The First United Methodist Church and other community churches are participating in the 2007 CROP Walk Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. to raise money for those who have to walk for food, water or other necessities. To organize a team, attend the recruiters' meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the FUMC fellowship hall. A light meal of sandwiches and chips will be served.
