Jail phone scam targets area residents

      A scam by Harris County jailbirds could leave unwary residents with sky-high phone bills. "We have had lots of people calling about it," said El Campo Police Officer Cindy Howell. "The people say they are calling from the Harris County Jail.

      City Arrests Alcohol, drugs Robert Garcia, 40, of 811 West Loop was arrested at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 on charges of driving while intoxicated, expired driver's license and no insurance after using the wrong turn signal. He was released the same day on $3,500 bond.

One Injured
      An El Campo rescuer uses his leg to brace while trying to pull the door free that entrapped the female driver of this Pontiac Torrent. She was flown to a Houston hospital by Life Flight helicopter after being pinned in her SUV during an accident Tuesday around noon on the West Loop.
