Bernice Wittig given surprise dinner party by her daughters

Bernice Wittig was honored with a surprise dinner party Sunday in her home for her 85th birthday. Hosting this special occasion were her daughters, Clarann McCoy of Katy, Bonnie Jolibois of Montgomery, Weida Gadeke of El Campo and Raunda Janssen of Victoria.

Families attending were her grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren. Surprising her also were her two childhood girlfriends, Ruth McDaniel of Houston and Lorene "Sodie" Bard of El Campo.

Dinner consisted of a catered barbecue meal with fresh fruit and a specially decorated Italian cream cake. Her dining table held a large floral arrangement which had been placed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Wharton earlier that morning in her honor.

Her actual birthday is today, Oct. 10.
