ECMS 8TH GRADE FOOTBALL REPORT El Campo Middle School's eighth-grade football teams ran into trouble Tuesday against George Junior High of Rosenberg. Both teams lost, but each game had great moments for the Ricebirds. 8th Grade Red The Ricebirds fell 28-26 in a close match with George. Devin Parks scored three touchdowns in the game while DeAndre Pratt made the fourth score on a great defensive play. El Campo's first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 53-yard run by Parks . Pratt kicked the extra point. At the end of the quarter, due to a pair of George touchdowns, El Campo trailed 16-8. Parks ran in on a 16-yard carry for the Ricebirds' second touchdown of the game. George also managed another score in the second quarter and by halftime, El Campo was behind 22- 14. The Ricebirds made two more scores in the fourth quarter and it was almost enough to deliver them the game. Parks scored on an 83-yard run for the first score. The second came with El Campo on the defensive. Pratt stripped the ball away from George's fullback and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. Another George score in the fourth quarter put El Campo down 28-26 as time ran out on the 'Birds. Parks led the Ricebirds with 198 rushing yards on 14 carries. Pratt ran for 36 yards on 6 carries and Cullen Schoener ran the ball 3 times for 10 yards. Schoener completed 3 of 5 passes for 82 yards. Bryan Sparks was his leading receiver with a catch for 38 yards while Parks caught a ball for 26 yards and Pratt had a reception for 18 yards. Leading tacklers on the night were Josh Bishop, Eric Williams, Ryan Reyna, Michael Hawkins and Pratt. Slade Schuirring came through with a fumble recovery. 8th Grade White El Campo ran into a tough opponent Tuesday when the Ricebirds hosted George Junior High. In a trying match, El Campo fell 32-8, but made a great drive to score the first touchdown of the game in the second quarter. The Ricebirds began in 60- yard drive with a key play coming on third down with 9 yards to go. Derek Yackel connected with Collin Jansky on a pressure filled pass over the middle for 22 yards. A pair of runs by Castrong Richardson and Bartolo Salgado moved the ball deep inside George's 10, but the drive stopped on the 5-yard line. Unable to reach the end zone, El Campo turned the ball over on downs, but hope remained for the 'Birds. Two plays later, Logan Howard recovered a fumble on the George 3-yard line and set up a big score on the next play. Ryan Herman, Martin Velasquez and Anthony Escamilla opened up a big hole while Jacorric Malone barreled through for the final lead block. By the time Salgado took the hand-off, the work was practically done for him as he ran into the end zone for a touchdown. Malone kicked the extra point and El Campo led 8-0. George answered with a pair of scores later in the second quarter and scored twice more in the second half to finish with a 32-8 win. Malone was El Campo's leading rusher on the night with 24 yards. Richardson ran for 22 yards and Salgado carried for 13 yards. Devontey Allen led the defense with 4 tackles while Howard made 3 and Escamilla made 1 tackle. Each of them also recovered 1 fumble. Kurtis Krejci and Davontey Simmons also played well for the defense. |
