EL CAMPO FRESHMAN FOOTBALL REPORT

El Campo's freshman football teams split a pair of games Thursday.

The Red team earned a great win over Brazosport while the White team fell in a close game.

Freshman Red

The Ricebirds cruised to a great 30-8 win over Brazosport.

El Campo scored first with a great run in the first quarter.

Andrew Catete broke free for a 56-yard scramble into the end zone with 5:26 left in the quarter. Stephen Anderson ran in the 2-point conversion and El Campo took an 8-0 lead early in the game.

The Ricebirds scored another pair of touchdowns before halftime to take a major lead. The first came on an excellent defensive play.

Rosalino Salgado scooped up a fumbled ball and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown. Anderson scored the 2-point conversion again and El Campo's lead grew to 2-0.

The last score of the first half came with only 3 seconds remaining and was through the air.

Chris Kerzee connected with A.J. Owens and 78 yards later, the Ricebirds had an even bigger lead. Devan Luedecke kicked the extra point to put El Campo ahead 23-0.

The Ricebirds struck again in the third quarter. Catete scored his third touchdown of the night, this one from 6 yards out and with 5:52 left in the quarter. Luedecke kicked the extra point and put the 'Birds ahead 30-0.

Brazosport managed a touchdown late in the game, but because of El Campo's defensive dominance, it was their only score of the night. The Ricebirds won 30-8.

Catete led El Campo with 105 yards on 7 carries while

Travel Kimble carried the ball 6 yards for 52 yards.

Kerzee was the leading passer on the night with 1 completion for 78 yards. Luedecke completed 1 pass for 25 yards.

Owens caught both passes for a total 103 yards on the night.

Salgado led the defense with 6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery while Roly Piloto made 4 tackles and Eli Wood and Kerzee both made 3 tackles. Catete picked off 1 interception.

Freshman White

The Ricebirds fell to Foster 14-8 in a difficult match-up for El Campo.

A pair of scores in the second quarter put El Campo down 14-0 at the half and gave the Ricebirds a hard situation to overcome.

El Campo played tough ball to prevent any further scoring by Foster and make one touchdown with only seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter.

The Ricebirds finished a deep drive into Foster territory with a 2-yard touchdown run by

Trey Krpec. He ran in for the 2-point conversion on the next play and cut Foster's lead to 14- 8 with 27 seconds remaining in the game.

Bryan Montalvo was El Campo's leading rusher on the night with 13 carries for 80 yards.

Krpec completed 4 of 10 passes for 60 total yards.

Bryan Moreno led the 'Birds with 2 receptions for 40 yards while Montalvo caught 2 balls for 10 yards.

Sergio Jaramillo led the defense with 5 tackles. Moreno made 4 tackles and recovered 1 fumble while Clayton Harkins also made 4 tackles, Krpec made 3 and Montalvo made 3 tackles and had a fumble recovery.
