KOPS member reinstated to desired goal

The TOPS #TX 1281, El Campo business meeting on Tuesday recognized a newly reinstated KOPS (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly) during a special ceremony.

All TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) members work to achieve a weight goal prescribed by their physician. When goal is reached, the member becomes a KOPS. They can lost status by gaining more than three pounds above goal or losing more than seven pounds below goal.

Two weeks is allowed to get back into the 10 pounds range known as leeway. Status can be lost by not renewing membership or through non-attendance.

The chapter leader who was in charge of the ceremony commended the KOPS on her victory over weight. She was presented yellow roses as symbols of her courage, determination and success. She also received a special reinstatement charm as a reminder of her achievement. She was reminded that she had earned the right to wear her KOPS pin again and to be part of the KOPS alumni.

She lit a candle from the "Candle of Continuity" centered with the roses on a crocheted tablecloth. The three KOPS in attendance then came forward to light their candles, forming a "Circle of Light."

Following the reading of a poem about KOPS, they recited the KOPS pledge together.

TOPS is a nonprofit international weight loss and support organization. This group meets each Tuesday from 8:15-10 a.m., at the Heritage Center.

Visitors are welcome to attend.
