LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Turkey shoot big success Editor, the Leader-News:

To the community of Wharton County, we would like to thank you for coming out to support the turkey shoot. Without the support of the community and businesses we would not have been able to have had a successful first year. We raised enough money to give away two $1,000 scholarships to a future biologist or game warden. We have already started to plan next year's event: We are going to try to double the scholarships. Anyone interested in being on the planning committee, please contact us.

Hoelscher family appreciative Editor, the Leader-News:

The family of Alan Hoelscher would like to thank the Boys & Girls Club of El Campo for the memorial tribute they paid to Alan Hoelscher and Betty Ann Franke at the Snag, Tag and Brag event on Thursday.

Alan dedicated a lot of his time and effort to community projects, but the Boys & Girls Club brought him the most enjoyment. He was always excited by the accomplishments achieved by the kids. Each goal attained by the club was another step in the right direction to making even a small difference in a child's life.

Alan was proud to be part of the team that helped make things happen. It is a real tribute to his memory to see new and familiar faces stepping in to keep the club and what it stands for alive.

Dedicating a room to him was a wonderful way to honor his contributuions. As we carry on with our lives after his death, it is touching to know children will continue to pass under his watchful eye.

Many thanks from all of us.

Lauri Hoelscher, William Hedstrom, Kelly, Jim and Jake Janik, Reba and Granville Ott, and Tony Hoelscher

Happy to see Barbee at helm Editor, the Leader-News:

I would like to congratulate Chris Barbee on his promotion to serve as the editor and publisher of the El Campo Leader-News, Wharton Journal-Spectator and East Bernard Express. I have known Chris and Carol for many years and he has always been honest and straightforward in his opinions and fair to everyone. We will truly miss Fred, but I know he is smiling down from heaven and saying "This is my son; in him I am well pleased." Good luck Chris and may God bless you and your family.
