Follow The Purple Path
Historically the color purple has symbolized power, spiritual goals, passionate belief, visionary leadership, respect or wealth and has been worn by emperors, military commanders, and other high-ranking officials. Today, purple ribbons tied around town signify something different, the upcoming Relay for Life that recognizes those who have and have not survived cancer. Here Relay for Life committee members Sandra Kachmar and Janiece Holub (l-r) tie a purple ribbon around a pole on West Norris. "Purple is the color we use for the survivors and is the official color of Relay for Life," Kachmar said. "We thought it would be an interesting way to spark attention and so we basically marked the way to the stadium with purple ribbons." Teams and cancer survivors will gather Saturday and Sunday, 6 p.m. - 6 a.m., to take to the track at Ricebird stadium in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Kachmar is a member of the Homesteaders team, while Holub is a Cancer Convict team member.
