B.G. & Betty Parma celebrate 50th anniversary

MR. AND MRS. B.G. PARMA MARRIED OCT. 12, 1957

B.G. (Bonnie) and Betty (Dorotik) Parma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend by first attending the El Campo High School football game Friday night in Rosenberg.

Married Oct. 12, 1957 at St. Philip Catholic Church by the Rev. Msgr. Julius Petru, the couple's courtship began in 1955 when B.G. went to Crescent High to watch Betty play basketball, a love that started at a sporting event and continues to this day.

Their love for sports has been an integral part of their marriage. They have watched their children participate in Ricebird athletics and are now enjoying watching their grandchildren doing the same. So it was very appropriate that they spent their actual 50th anniversary at the Ricebird football game watching their grandson, Landon Appling, play against the Terry Rangers. As a special surprise, their family sponsored the Derby Doll half-time show in their honor.

On Saturday, the Parmas were treated to dinner at Perry's Steakhouse & Grille in Sugar Land. The couple were joined by their children and grandchildren for dinner in a private dining area at Perry's.

On Sunday, the couple and their family attended the 7 a.m. Mass in their honor. The Rev. Gary Janak gave the couple a special blessing.

B.G. is retired from Central Power and Light after 38 years of service. Betty is a former instructional aide with El Campo ISD.

Their children include Bonnie Collins and husband Ronny of El Campo; Phyllis Appling and husband Mark of El Campo; Greg Parma of Philadelphia, Pa.; Tim Parma and wife Jackie of Tyler; and Betsy Heinrich and husband Steve of Round Rock. Grandchildren are Camille Henslee and husband Brock; Julia and Lauralee Collins; Meagen, Dustin and Landon Appling; Gillian and Tagen Parma; and Reilly, Carter and Rayner Heinrich.
