After a great homecoming victory comes this year's real challenge.
Louise will travel Friday for a game that has been tough in the last few years for the Hornets, but this year could be the one.
The Hornets need this game in order to take one step farther in securing a playoff spot. To do it, they will have to knock off the Beavers, a team who has made it to the post-season two consecutive years, in Falls City.
"To control your own destiny, you've got to win two of the next three games," Rodney Dowell, head coach of the Hornets, said. "I don't care how you go about doing it, but it's way easier to just win the next three and not have to worry about it. But, Falls City is a tough place to play. Our kids know that."
Louise hosted the Beavers last year and lost 25-24. The year before, the Hornets traveled to Falls City and lost 23- 20.
The Hornets know just how difficult Friday could be.
"It's been tough and a battle every year," Dowell said. "They've got good, hard-working kids that play hard. Coach Mark Kirchhoff and the staff over there do a tremendous job and they've got a tremendous tradition. We've got to take our opportunities and knock people off like that. Those are the ones that you put a big notch in your belt when you get them."
The fact is, the Hornets look at Falls City and see a team they aspire to be. To make the playoffs consistently is Louise's goal and it could start with defeating last year's district runner-up.
"We're wanting to be that team," Dowell said. "We're wanting to have the bull's eye on us. In order to get there, you've got to take it off someone else. This is just one of the steps we've got to take to get what we want.
"Our kids have been ready for this. They've been talking about this for a long time. It's time to quit talking and time to do something about it. We've got to play with a personal conviction and energy level that they can't match. If we do that, everything is going to be fine. Winning and losing will take care of itself."
For the moment, the only team that stands in the way of Louise making the playoffs is Louise.
Sitting in third place, if the Hornets win their remaining three games, they even have a shot at claiming district.
It will only take two wins, though, to clinch playoffs.
"It's hard to say what's going to happen and if it's a must-win," Dowell said. "I feel like every game is a must-win. Realistically, to control our own destiny, we've got to win two out of the next three. It would be nice to go ahead and take one of those out right now. Then we've got two games to get it done. We'll just see how it goes."
Hornets 34, Woodsboro 6
Louise got a key win Friday with a huge 34-6 win against Woodsboro.
The Hornets scored five consecutive touchdowns to take a 34-0 lead over the Eagles.
Running back Antwon Parson made the first score on a massive 81-yard run.
Fullback Kyle Lawson ran in for the second and then Parson made two more touchdowns in the second quarter.
Javier Padron claimed the final score in the third quarter to put Louise up 34-0.
Woodsboro finally managed a score with two seconds remaining in the fourth quarter before time ran out.
Before the Hornets' game with Woodsboro, Dowell said he wanted to see an improved offense, especially among the offensive line. Monday, the coach was happy to say his team played great ball.
