ST. PHILIP VOLLEYBALL UPDATE

St. Philip's volleyball teams took on Hallettsville Sacred Heart Oct. 8 in tough matches.

The A team came away with a win while the B and C teams gave good efforts in a pair of difficult losses.

St. Philip A

The Pioneers defeated Sacred Heart in a close three-game match. After taking the first game 25-15, St. Philip fell to a surging Sacred Heart squad.

Sacred Heart claimed game two 25-18, but game three went to the Pioneers. St. Philip rebounded for a 25-16 win to take the match 2-1.

Rebecca Korenek led the Pioneers with 9 points in the match. Amber Kresta and Lauren Gregurek both scored 8 points, Kathryn Hancock scored 7, Kirby Quintero scored 4, Sally Johnson scored 3, Shelby Snyder scored 2 and Janae Saucedo scored 1 point.

St. Philip B

Sacred Heart managed a win over the Pioneers with scores of 25-10 and 25-8. Despite the loss, a few Pioneers earned points in the match.

Kayelynn Korenek scored a team-high 2 points while Kacy Knesek, Rebecca Dornak and Alexis Crowell each scored 1 point.

St. Philip C

The Pioneers came close, but Sacred Heart escaped with a two-game win. St. Philip fell 25- 16 and 25-20.

Audrey Anderson led the Pioneers in scoring with 5 points in the match. Jennie Ritter scored 2 points and Kaitlyn Davlin, Lindsey Jones, Morgan Sparks, Madison Korenek and Lacy Knesek each scored 1 point.

Pioneers v St. Anthony

The Pioneers took on Columbus St. Anthony Oct. 4 in three tight volleyball matches.

St. Philip's A team was the only squad to earn a win over Columbus, but all three teams had some good moments against St. Anthony.

St. Philip A

The Pioneers made a clean sweep of St. Anthony for an easy win. St. Philip won the match 2- 0 with scores of 25-9 and 25-7.

Quintero led the Pioneers in scoring with 16 points in the match. Johnson scored 10 points, Korenek scored 7, Saucedo scored 3, Snyder scored 2 and Gregurek scored 1 point.

St. Philip B

The Pioneers fell to St. Anthony 2-1 after a tense game three. St. Philip earned a win in game one, 25-18, but lost the second game 25-15.

Game three went to St. Anthony in a close 16-14 decision.

Dornak led St. Philip with 12 points while Sara Krenek scored 6, Taylor Fuechec and Allison Fucik both scored 4, Knesek scored 2 and Brooke Wallace and Shelby Stary both scored 1 point.

St. Philip C

The Pioneers fell to St. Anthony in a tough match 2-0.

Four different girls scored points in St. Philip's effort.

Anderson, Davlin, Jessica Gaines and Rosie Krenek each scored 1 point in the match.

Pioneers v St. Rose

Before the Pioneers took on St. Anthony, St. Philip faced St. Rose Schulenburg Sept. 27. The A team was the only squad to come out with a win in this trio of tough matches, but each team played well on the court.

St. Philip A

The Pioneers swept St. Rose in two games with scores of 25- 22 and 25-16.

Korenek led St. Philip with 5 points while Paige Sparks scored 4 points, Kresta, Jessica Fucik, Gregurek and Quintero each scored 3, Johnson scored 2 and Hancock scored 1 point.

St. Philip B

St. Rose defeated the Pioneers 25-16 and 25-8 in a hardfought match by St. Philip.

Wallace and Knesek both led the Pioneers in scoring with 2 points while Michaela Thornton, Stary and Krenek each scored 1 point.

St. Philip C

The Pioneers lost to St. Rose 25-11 and 25-8 but still showed a good effort on the court.

Anderson led the Pioneers with 3 points while Knesek, Sparks and Davlin each scored 1 point in the match.
