Seasonal plantings of white petunias around huge front oak trees during the fall offer a clean and crisp appearance to the home of Rita M. Radley, 2503 Meadow Lane, El Campo "Yard of the Month" recipient.
"These (white petunias) survive the winter and establish good roots so that they bloom beautifully in spring," she said. The addition of white caladiums in the spring are also a welcome addition to this area. When Sherilyn Perilloux and Kathy Davis made the selection on behalf of the El Campo Garden Club, Radley was caught offguard.
"I was surprised (to be chosen) because at this time of the year my yard doesn't look as pretty as it usually does," Radley said.
Regular watering and fertilizing keep the Radley yard in shape with the assistance of hired help. "There is a lot of trimming of hedges and shrubbery that I need help with," she said.
Radley especially enjoys the backyard.
"My favorite spot is the north patio where I relax and enjoy the sound of the water trickling over the rocks in the waterfall and the view of the tropical plants in this area," she said.
One of those plants, a large windmill palm, was "planted by a bird and allowed to grow."
The addition of the patio and waterfall, as well as the black iron fencing at the driveway and landscaping were done recently.
