COURT REPORTS Theft and drug possession were among the crimes several Wharton County residents will have to defend against following October grand jury deliberations. And while a grand jury indictment is not an indication of guilt, it is a citizen jury verdict that a prosecutor has enough evidence against a person to proceed with felony charges. Those facing felony trial include: • Llewellyn Scott, 33, of 12265 Fondren #1306 in Houston for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, two counts of possession and one count of tampering with physical evidence. She allegedly had and attempted to sell more than 400 grams of codeine on July 29. When police attempted to arrest her, Scott allegedly attempted to destroy the evidence by pouring it out. Scott has prior felony convictions for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance. • La Warren Lee Shorter, 21, of 1014 E. Calhoun #1 in El Campo for engaging in organized criminal activity and theft. He allegedly stole more than $1,500 in building materials on June 11 while in collaboration with others. • Sherri Smith, 35, of 704 Ave. K in El Campo for two counts of forgery. She allegedly forged two checks on Jan. 20 - one for $75 and another for $65.85. • John Morgan Williams Jr., 25, of 8028 Gessner #1707 In Austin for possession of a controlled substance and the intent to deliver it, two counts on assault of a public servant and one count of escape. He allegedly had and intended to sell 4 to 200 grams of cocaine on Aug. 9. When El Campo officers attempted to arrest him, Williams allegedly kicked them and attempt to escape. He has prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance and two counts of burglary of a habitation. Superceding Indictment A superceding indictment is one which adds or modifies information on an earlier indictment. A superceding indictment was issued for: • Gabriel Dera Ramirez, 25, of Rt. 1, Box 266 on CR 453 in El Campo for driving while intoxicated. He allegedly drove drunk on July 15. Ramirez has two prior misdemeanor DWI convictions. |
