The Hornets earned a much-needed win in their last home game of the season Friday night over the Flatonia Bulldogs.
Going into the game, Louise was stuck in fifth place in District 31-A at 2- 2 while Flatonia was a perfect 3-0. Friday's 25-19 win showed the Hornets still have life and made the goal of reaching the playoffs more realistic than ever.
Now at 3-2 in the district and going into their open week, the Hornets will prepare to take on Pettus Nov. 9 to end the regular season.
Louise's great win over the Bulldogs started in the first quarter with a nice scoring drive to take the first lead.
Hornet running back Antwon Parson ran in on a 25-yard touchdown to make the first mark on the scoreboard. The following extra point failed, but Louise had the lead 6-0 with 6:39 left to play in the first quarter.
Louise made a deep run into Bulldog territory for the last score of the first half.
With 23 seconds before halftime, fullback Kyle Lawson completed a nice drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.
The Hornets opted to go for the 2- point conversion and attempted to cover any missed ground on the previous missed extra point, but the try failed.
Still, Louise went into the locker room ahead of favored Flatonia 12-0.
Defense was key in the third quarter.
The Hornets knew Flatonia would come out looking to score, but Louise's defense held on strong and kept the shutout going in the third.
While Louie's defense was stingy in the quarter, the Bulldogs prevented any further scoring from the Hornets until the fourth quarter.
Lawson struck again, this time from 24 yards out with 11:51 left to play.
Cory Hajovsky came through with the extra point kick and the Hornets' lead grew to 19-0.
Flatonia responded with a pair of touchdowns to cut Louise's lead.
The first score came on a 7-yard pass play with 9:53 left to play and the 2-point conversion missed.
Flatonia scored again with 7:29 left in the game on a 14-yard passing play. This time, the Bulldogs came through with the extra point to cut Louise's lead to 19-13.
The Hornets answered with another score. Lawson made his third touchdown of the night on a 42-yard run.
Another late touchdown by Flatonia could not deny the Hornets a win as Louise topped the Bulldogs 25-19.
