Put 'Em Up
A few El Campo boxers are preparing to travel to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the TITLE National Championships, held Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. Pictured above with several of their trophies and awards are (l-r) Juan Peña, Richard Hernandez and Henry Hernandez. This year, Henry was a State Silver Gloves finalist at Dallas, won the Outstanding Boxer award in Humble, was a Golden Gloves Semi-finalist in Houston and won the Houston Regional Golden Gloves in 2006. Richard was the National Silver Gloves Runner-up at Kansas City, Kan., won the State Silver Gloves Championship, Silver Gloves Regional Championship in Little Rock, Ark., Houston Regional Golden Gloves, the Dallas State Tournament this year and in 2006 won the Houston Regional Golden Gloves. Peña is a new member of the boxing team and has four bouts with two wins. In 2008, the boys are planning to travel for a tournament in McKinney and later try out for the Junior Olympics.
