Aquatic Center Offers Halloween Treat The El Campo Aquatic Center will have a Halloween Fun Night tonight. There will be candy, games and prizes from 6-8 p.m., and a costume contest at 7:30 p.m. for kids and adults. Please call the pool for information at 543-1468.

Legion Monthly Executive Meeting Craig Harriss American Legion Post 251 will hold its Executive Committee meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the auxiliary room. The meeting is to finalize plans for the Veterans Day fund-raiser and other projects.

Church Offers Treats, Not Tricks The El Campo Church of Christ, 311 E. Calhoun St. (two blocks behind H-E-B) will pass out goodies tonight from 6- 8 p.m. Cars and trucks will be lined up passing out loads of candy and fun stuff, all from their trunks. Bring children to share in fun times together in this community.

THURSDAY, NOV. 1

Youth Fair Taking Live Turkey Orders Any 4-H or FFA member interested in raising turkeys for the 2008 WCYF must order their turkeys by Thursday at a cost of $2.50 per bird; minimum order of 10 birds per exhibitor. Turkey exhibitor cards must be sent to the Fair office on or postmarked by Nov. 1. An entry fee of $15 must accompany your completed entry card.

Labor of Love Commodities Arriving Those who have applied for Labor of Love program may pick up their commodities at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Friday, Nov. 2 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Tejano Scholarship Fund-raiser Wharton County Tejano Education Scholarship Fund is selling fried chicken plates for pick up only from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Plates are $6 each. Call Dolores Cardenas at 332-0826 or 332-1358 for tickets.

CROP Walk Registration Meeting The First United Methodist Church and other community churches are participating in the 2007 CROP Walk Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. to raise money for those who have to walk for food, water or other necessities. Circus Coming To El Campo The El Campo Chamber of Commerce hosts the Carson & Barnes Circus Sunday, Nov. 4 in the lot by the El Campo Civic Center. Showtimes are 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Call the Chamber at 543-2713 for more details.

DAV And Auxiliary Monthly Meeting Wharton County DAV Chapter #72 and Auxiliary hold their monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall. A covered dish meal will be served before the meeting.

Learn About WCJC Nov. 6 WCJC's coordinator of recruiting, Julie Aaronson, will be at Northside Education Center Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 4-6 p.m. George Lehnert of the financial aid office will also be available. Catalogues and class schedules for credit courses and continuing education classes will be available. Northside is located at 707 Fahrenthold, directly behind the library.

Choir Booster Club Meeting Parents of choir students will meet Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Band Hall at El Campo High School. For information call Vicci Flores at 578-8366.

Fried Chicken Tenders Dinner The Class of 2008, 8th Grade to Washington, D.C. St. Philip School To Give Prizes St. Philip students are selling drawing tickets for many nice items including: winner's choice of a 2008 Kawasaki Bayou 4-Wheeler or 2008 Z225 John Deere Zero-Turn lawnmower, stainless steel barbecue pit, 10-22-caliber rifle, Samsung camcorder, $300 and $200 Visa gift cards. $10 donation each. Veterans Day Celebration American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its ladies Auxiliary will hold a Veterans Day celebration and benefit Saturday, Nov. 10 at the American Legion Hall. Social hour at 4:30 p.m., barbecue chicken dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Plates are $6 for dine-in only followed by a live auction at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction and raffle to follow. Ladies auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts.

Louise-Hillje Beautification Day Louise-Hillje Beautification Organization will have a dump site at 3rd and Market streets, across from the fire station in Louise from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday Nov. 10. Accepting plastics, paper, aluminum, glass, cans, small metal objects and household debris. Large appliances, tires and motor oil will not be accepted; however Rice Farmers Coop in El Campo will accept old tires for a fee depending on size. Brush pile in Louise will be open for tree limbs and lumber. Any donations will be appreciated as the cost of the dumpster is $180 per load. Volunteers are needed for clean-up campaign.

ECVFD Auxiliary Sells Cheese Balls The El Campo Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary will once again be making and selling cheese balls. The cost is $6 per ball and the deadline for placing your order is Saturday, Nov. 10. Call Helen Hlavaty at 543-9483 to place your order.

EC Branch Library Scholastic Book Fair The El Campo Branch Library is holding its semi-annual Scholastic Book Fair, with a wide variety of books and novelties available for purchase, through Saturday, Nov. 10. The sale is open during regular library hours: Monday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

'An Empty Place at the Table' Presented The Houston Hospice - El Campo Area will present An Empty Place at the Table to help people cope with the holidays after a death, on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9- 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton. For information call 979-578-0314.

Variety Shoot/Youth Fall Festival St. Mary's Youth of Nada will hold their annual Variety Shoot and Youth Fall Festival on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Nada Community Center. The Variety Shoot will be from 1-4 p.m. and include a variety of prizes and rounds for women and children. The Festival will be held from 4-7 p.m. Hamburgers, chili, pastries, and other refreshments will be available. Activities include bingo, cake walk, silent auction, kid games and a raffle drawing at 7 p.m.

ECMS Hosts Veterans Day Program El Campo Middle School will host its Veterans Day Program at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in the Middle School new gym. All veterans are invited to attend.

Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review club will meet Monday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. at the WC Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond Rd., Wharton. Sylvia Thompson will review 'Lady Bird, a Biography of Mrs. Johnson' by Jan Jarboe Russell. Season memberships are $25. Guests and individual reviews are $5. Harvest Retrospective Breakfast El Campo Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Harvest Retrospective Breakfast Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6:45 p.m. at the El Campo Civic Center Duson Room. Tickets are $10 each.

Veterans Service Office Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open every Tuesday and Wednesday during November. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

Register For Christmas Parade Christmas Around the World is the theme for this year's Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Evans Park. Entry forms are available now at the Chamber of Commerce.

20th Annual Christmas Mall The El Campo Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th Annual Christmas Mall at the El Campo Civic Center Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2. Limited booth space is still available. Call the Chamber for information at 543- 2713.

Nominate Your Citizen of the Year It is time again to nominate a Citizen of the Year. Entries must be turned in by Friday Nov. 9 by 5 p.m. The meeting for the past Citizens of the Year will be Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. Nominations should give as many details as possible about the person nominated.

Derby Dolls Sell Engraved Bricks The Derby Doll Booster Club is selling engraved bricks to be displayed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may have your name, class, organization or business on them. They can also be in honor of someone, in memory of someone, a current or past student. Smoked Turkeys Sold by Eastern Star El Campo's Order of the Eastern Star is selling smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving as a fund-raiser. Turkeys will be approximately 10 pounds and will be prepared and smoked by local members. Turkeys are available for $25 each by pre-sale only. They will be delivered Nov. 20.
