Knights of Columbus Council No. 2490 has received the distinction of Star Council, the international organization's top award.
The Star Council award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership, promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service-oriented activities.
This award was presented to the membership by Kenny Trochta, district deputy, at the KC'smonthly meeting.
During the last fraternal year, the council recruited 26 new members, contributed $4,585 to Texas state charities programs, held several fund-raisers for St. Philip Catholic School, awarded local scholarships, and participated in numerous community projects. With its growing membership, Council No. 2490 is the ninth largest council among Texas' 709 councils.
With more than 1.7 million members, the Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic lay organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in services to the Catholic church, the community, families and young people.
