LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Vote 'Yes' to support schools Editor, the Leader-News: It is time for voting - Tuesday, Nov. 6 - and there is one item that will help state schools and state hospitals in the way of repairs and construction. It is blended in with other repairs that really need doing around this state. We should all get out and VOTE. I am asking you to please consider a YES or FOR Proposition 4 We need to keep things in proper repair. On a personal note, Proposition 15 cure for cancer by the selling of bonds is very near to me. Perhaps cancer has touched some of you or your family. We must put an end to this killer that eats away at health care and kills so many people. Early voting started Oct. 22, so you still have time to do that. If not please get out on election day. Voting in Wharton County so far is very light. Please vote! Ileene R. Robinson Civic Center looks just fine Editor, the Leader-News: I was shocked after reading the Oct. 20 edition of the Leader-News regarding the deplorable condition of our civic center. What could possibly be wrong with the exterior appearance of the building? I find the current appearance appealing as well as attractive. Why change the front facade and remove flower beds? Replacing the roof is expected, it is called maintenance. Replace the lighting system and install a dance floor? Of course, we are only talking about a million or so dollars, just a drop in the bucket. I contend that the civic center is just fine as is and propose that we maintain what we already have - an extremely nice facility which is already the envy of other communities in our area. I feel that we should ask ourselves does our population and taxpayer base warrant these types of renovations? Is this proposed project a want or a need? Jimmy Sanders |
