CROP Walk Registration Meeting The First United Methodist Church and other community churches are participating in the 2007 CROP Walk Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. to raise money for those who have to walk for food, water or other necessities. MONDAY, NOV. 5 Smoked Turkeys Sold by Eastern Star El Campo's Order of the Eastern Star is selling smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving as a fund-raiser. Turkeys will be approximately 10 pounds and will be prepared and smoked by local members. Turkeys are available for $25 each by pre-sale only. They will be delivered Nov. 20. DAV And Auxiliary Monthly Meeting Wharton County DAV Chapter #72 and Auxiliary hold their monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Entries must be turned in by Friday Nov. 9 by 5 p.m. The meeting for the past Citizens of the Year will be Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. Nominations should give as many details as possible about the person nominated. COMING SOON Veterans Day Celebration American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its ladies Auxiliary will hold a Veterans Day celebration and benefit Saturday, Nov. 10 at the American Legion Hall. Social hour at 4:30 p.m., barbecue chicken dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Plates are $6 for dine-in only followed by a live auction at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction and raffle to follow. Ladies auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts. Louise-Hillje Beautification Day Louise-Hillje Beautification Organization will have a dump site at 3rd and Market streets, across from the fire station in Louise from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday Nov. 10. Accepting plastics, paper, aluminum, glass, cans, small metal objects and household debris. Large appliances, tires and motor oil will not be accepted; however Rice Farmers Coop in El Campo will accept old tires for a fee depending on size. Brush pile in Louise will be open for tree limbs and lumber. Any donations will be appreciated as the cost of the dumpster is $180 per load. Volunteers are needed for clean-up campaign. ECVFD Auxiliary Sells Cheese Balls The El Campo Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary will once again be making and selling cheese balls. EC Branch Library Scholastic Book Fair The El Campo Branch Library is holding its semi-annual Scholastic Book Fair, with a wide variety of books and novelties available for purchase, through Saturday, Nov. 10. The sale is open during regular library hours: Monday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. 'An Empty Place at the Table' Presented The Houston Hospice - El Campo Area will present An Empty Place at the Table to help people cope with the holidays after a death, on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9- 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton. Variety Shoot/Youth Fall Festival St. Mary's Youth of Nada will hold their annual Variety Shoot and Youth Fall Festival on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Nada Community Center. The Variety Shoot will be from 1-4 p.m. and include a variety of prizes and rounds for women and children. The Festival will be held from 4-7 p.m. Hamburgers, chili, pastries, and other refreshments will be available. Activities include bingo, cake walk, silent auction, kid games and a raffle drawing at 7 p.m. ECMS Hosts Veterans Day Program El Campo Middle School will host its Veterans Day Program at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in the Middle School new gym. All veterans are invited to attend. Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review club will meet Monday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. at the WC Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond Rd., Wharton. Register For Christmas Parade Christmas Around the World is the theme for this year's Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Evans Park. Entry forms are available now at the Chamber of Commerce. Derby Dolls Sell Engraved Bricks The Derby Doll Booster Club is selling engraved bricks to be displayed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may have your name, class, organization or business on them. They can also be in honor of someone, in memory of someone, a current or past student.
