EC finishes fifth at meet

El Campo's Varsity Girls cross country team competed in regionals Saturday in Humble and finished with a couple of school bests.

Saturday's event marked the first time two individuals finished in the top 20 of the region's best runners and the highest team finish in Lady 'Bird history.

Junior Angel Brooks and sophomore Laura Echeverria pushed the Lady 'Birds with a great showing in Humble. Brooks finished 13th while Echeverria finished 17th out of 143 total runners.

The two girls' times helped the entire team finish fifth out of 19 cross country teams. The previous highest finish for the Lady 'Birds was ninth.

El Campo enjoyed a lot of success this cross country year and the season-ending regional meet was no exception. The Lady 'Birds completed a great season to show that they are one of the elite squads in the region.
