BULLETIN BOARD DON'T MISS: Veterans Day Celebration American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Veterans Day celebration and benefit today at the American Legion Hall. Social hour at 4:30 p.m., barbecue chicken dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Plates are $6 for dine-in only followed by a live auction at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction and raffle to follow. Ladies auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts. TODAY, NOV. 10 Louise-Hillje Beautification Day Louise-Hillje Beautification Organization will have a dump site at 3rd and Market streets, across from the fire station in Louise from 8 a.m. to noon today. Accepting plastic, paper, aluminum, glass, cans, small metal objects and household debris. Large appliances, tires and motor oil will not be accepted; however, Rice Farmers Co-op in El Campo will accept old tires for a fee depending on size. Brush pile in Louise will be open for tree limbs and lumber. Any donations will be appreciated because the cost of the dumpster is $180 per load. Volunteers are needed for clean-up campaign. ECVFD Auxiliary Sells Cheese Balls The El Campo Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary will once again make and sell cheese balls. The cost is $6 per ball and the deadline for placing an order is today, Nov. 10. Call Helen Hlavaty at 543-9483 to order. An Empty Place at the Table Presented The Houston Hospice - El Campo Area will present An Empty Place at the Table to help people cope with the holidays after a death, today from 9-11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton. Annual Texana Chili Spill The Seventh Annual Texana Chili Spill will be today, Nov. 10 as part of the Veterans Day weekend at Brackenridge Park and Campground near Edna. Cook-offs begin at 8 a.m., horseshoe and washer tournaments, cake auction, kiddie train and live music all day. Admission is $2 for 12 years and up. SUNDAY, NOV. 11 Variety Shoot/Youth Fall Festival St. Mary's Youth of Nada will hold their annual Variety Shoot and Youth Fall Festival Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Nada Community Center. The Variety Shoot will be from 1-4 p.m. and include a variety of prizes and rounds for women and children. The Festival will be held from 4-7 p.m. Hamburgers, chili, pastries and other refreshments will be available. Activities include bingo, cake walk, silent auction, kid games and a raffle drawing at 7 p.m. EC/Hillje SPJST Monthly Meeting El Campo Hillje SPJST Lodge 40 will hold its monthly meeting in Hillje at the Lodge Hall Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Members and guests are welcome. Members are asked to bring a dessert. Wesley Chapel Building Fund Harvest Fest Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 201 Olive, will host a Building Fund Harvest Fest Sunday, Nov. 11 at noon. Donations are welcome. Veterans Service Office Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open every Tuesday and Wednesday during November. BEEs Sell Decorative Street Lamps The BEEs have some additional decorative street lamps for sale. They will be placed on either corner around Walgreen's. Register For Christmas Parade Christmas Around the World is the theme for this year's lighted Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Entry forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce. Derby Dolls Sell Engraved Bricks The Derby Doll Booster Club is selling engraved bricks to be displayed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may have your name, class, organization or business on them. They can also be in honor of someone, in memory of someone, a current or past student. WCYF Roaster Orders Needed Any 4-H or FFA member interested in raising Roasters for the 2008 WCYF must order their Roasters by Wednesday, Nov. 21 at a cost of $1.35 per bird. There is a minimum of 10 birds per exhibitor, maximum of 30 birds. Exhibitors in the same family must order under their own name. Entry cards are available at the El Campo Chamber of Commerce, Wharton County Extension Office, East Bernard Library and the Fair Office. Please call the Fair Office at 677-3350 for more information. The WCYF office will be closed for Thanksgiving Nov. 22-23. |
