El Campo Prairie Switch 4-H

Members of El Campo Prairie Switch 4-H met Monday evening at the Wharton County Youth Fair directors' room.

President Stephanie Korenek called the meeting to order.

Pledges and a prayer were led by Jeremy Supak, Sarah Supak, Michelle Sutton and Amy Bremser. Tommy and Jodie Stavena led the parents' pledge.

Sarah Supak called roll and Cody Seaman gave the treasurer's report. Members celebrating November birthdays were Cody Seaman, Christina Prieve, Kristen Staff and Frank Stavena.

Morgan Eggemeyer, historian, asked members to submit photographs from various projects.

Community service committee members Colby Snider and Cheyenne Staff collected canned goods and nonperishable items for the Blessing Cup Storehouse. They also requested December as "Adopt A Needy Family."

Sunshine committee members Kristen Staff and Desiree Prieve asked if there were any get well or thank-you cards to be mailed.

County council delegates giving a report on the Oct. 29 meeting included Stephanie Korenek and Cheyenne Staff.

Junior fair board members J.C. Orsak and Jennifer Prieve talked about their meeting held Oct. 15.

Important dates and activities from the 4-H newsletter were reviewed.

Wharton County Retired Teachers

The Wharton County Retired Teachers met this past Wednesday at the First United Methodist fellowship hall in East Bernard. Fifty members were present.

The meeting was called to order by President Henriette Jalowy. Pledges to the United States and Texas flags were recited. The minutes, as recorded at the previous meeting by Secretary Dana Riley, were approved as printed.

The treasurer's report was presented by Donald Lorfing. To date, the Wharton County Retired Teachers Chapter has 233 paid members.

Annie Stafford of Boling gave a presentation on Elderhostel Adventures in Lifelong Learning.

The next meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9 at First United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Wharton, 1717 Pioneer. The program will be a puppet show by Brain Minders for Seniors by the Pilot Club of Wharton.

All retired teachers are reminded to be sure to count and record their volunteer service hours. Be sure to tally steps for the U.S. Capitals Walking Tour, too.

Jeanette Macha gave the blessing before the catered buffet was served.
