El Campo Garden Club

Members of the El Campo Garden Club met Tuesday at the El Campo Country Club. Hostesses were Iola Drost and Carolyn Townsend.

Patsy Korenek, first vice-president, presided with 33 members in attendance. Korenek gave a report on the success of the recent Ducks Unlimited banquet. Rosemary Reeves brought two pound bags that once contained Golden Glow yellow cream cornmeal packed for the Garden Club in 1943. The sales tip on the back of the bags read: "Extend ration food with cornmeal." One bag had a recipe for Golden Glow cornbread submitted by Mrs. W.E. Raun. The other bag had a recipe for Golden Glow corn cakes submitted by Mrs. Donald Duson. Both women are from El Campo.

Peggy Barbee then introduced Linda Ebeling, who presented a fall decorating program.

Members of the club will complete Christmas decorations for three dorms at Richmond State School Nov. 14. Many members unable to make the trip are baking cookies for the residents.

Members enjoyed a meal of beef stir-fry with rice, egg rolls and cobbler.
