EC girls set freestyle relay record The Lady 'Birds are breaking records only fivemeets into the new swim season. El Campo's swim teams traveled to Richmond to compete in the Lamar Consolidated ISD Invitational Nov. 2 and 3. The greatest achievement of the meet for the Lady 'Birds came in the 17th event. Randi McClure, Hailey O'Briant, Meredith Bard and Blythe Nava combined to set a new school record in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay. The previous record was set in last year's regional meet, held Feb. 3. Angela Fiala joined with McClure, O'Briant and Bard for a 1:51.60 time. Last weekend, the Lady 'Birds swam for a school best 1:50.99 and finished fifth out of 28 teams in the event. Along with the record-breaking performance, El Campo got a chance to see several of the best teams in the region. The experience could prove valuable when district and region swim meets begin in late January and February.
