ECMS Volleyball Update

El Campo Middle School's eighth-grade volleyball teams finished their season as district champions with wins over George Junior high Monday.

8th Grade Red

The Lady 'Birds swept George in two close games with scores of 25-23 and 25-22 to get the match win.

Kaleigh Montalvo led El Campo in scoring with 11 points. Chelsea Salyer scored 5 points, Megan Calhoun and Ja'vonna George both scored 4, Breana Johnson scored 2 and Courtney Thonsgaard scored 1 point.

The Lady 'Birds finished with a 7-1 record as the best team in the district.

8th Grade White

George proved no problem for the Lady 'Birds as El Campo won with scores of 25-10 and 25- 14 for a sweep.

Brook Staff and Aubrey Garcia both scored a team-high 8 points in the match. Andrea Gaona scored 6 points, Marilyn Almanzar scored 5, Kara McCrary and Jenny Johnson both scored 4 and Graciela Trejo and Heather Tice both scored 2 points.

The win gave El Campo a perfect 8-0 record on the year.

Before the Lady 'Birds beat George, El Campo earned a close win over Lamar Junior High.

El Campo won the first game 25-21, but lost in game two 24- 16. With the match tied, the Lady 'Birds came through with a clutch performance to win 25- 22 and take the match 2-1.

Almanzar led the team in scoring with 9 points while Mc- Crary scored 8, Gaona scored 7,

Sha Cora Williams and Trejo both scored 5 and Garcia and Staff both scored 1 point.

The eighth-grade Red team also beat Lamar but stats and scores were not available.
